Road Closing on Route 414 Set For June 26-30

The NYS DOT is planning a closure of Route 414 in Seneca Falls at the Finger Lakes Railroad crossing. FLRR will be replacing the crossing. The scheduled dates are June 26 to June 30. Traffic will be detoured around Route 5&20 through the Village of Seneca Falls to Route 318 back to Route 414. Businesses may contact the DOT at 315-539-3112 for further information.

Pool at Vince's Park Open For The Summer

The pool at Vince's Park opened on Saturday, June 10th for the summer season. The pool is free to use for all Seneca Falls residents. The pool is only open on the weekends until June 25th when the pool will be open 7 days/week. Click here for more information on the facilities at Vince's Park.

The following is a map of the Town of Seneca Falls Water District.
(Map - .pdf) The map is color coded with existing water mains in light blue and proposed in yellow. The Town’s goal is to ultimately provide water access to every residence in Seneca Falls. Work on the continuation and connection of the Gravel Road waterline to the Village will begin shortly with an anticipated completion date of mid summer.  The Town of Seneca Falls 2006 Sewer and Water Committee is Jim Terryberry (Chair) and Steve Dougherty. Attention Village of Seneca Falls Water System Users

The Village of Seneca Falls Water Department will be performing its annual testing of fire hydrants and flushing of all water mains within the Village and Township. The First and Second Wards as well as all of the Town’s hydrants north of the canal will be flushed during the week of 6/12 through 6/16/2006. The Third and Fourth Wards as well as all hydrants from Canoga into the Village will be completed during the week of 6/5/06 through 6/9/06. During these periods, you may notice low water pressure, cloudy water or discolored water that should clear up quickly. If any of these conditions persist for a prolonged period, notify the Water Department at 568-6211 and personnel will respond as soon as possible. The Water Department recommends that before doing any laundry, you should verify that your water has cleared up.

“Daddy and Me” Boat Ride for Father's Day

A “Daddy and Me” Boat Ride will be offered on a large house boat on Fathers Day, June 18, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. The one-way boat ride will begin at Stivers Marina located at 401 Boody’s Hill Road off Route 96A. The sixty-seven foot long boat will travel east on the Cayuga-Seneca Canal through the Waterloo lock and end at the Seneca Falls Harbor, which is located in downtown Seneca Falls. Participants will need to provide their own transportation after the one-way boat ride. The cost for the boat ride is $20.00 for Dads and $1.00 for each child. Professional photos by local photographer, Linda Solan, will be offered at an additional cost.

Bloomers Needed

Amelia’s Bloomers are a new group with the goal of having families, individuals, organization, and/or churches adopt a planting area near the downtown and Third Ward shopping/tourist areas.  Each person/group would be responsible for planting and taking care of their area until the first fall frost.  The village will donate the flowers/plants.  Any individual or group interested in adopting an area should call Kathy Peters at 315-539-8006.

Summer Volunteers Needed at Seneca Museum

The Seneca Museum of Waterways and Industry, the canal and industry museum of Seneca Falls, is looking to train volunteers as docents during the summer tourist season.  The majority of the museum’s yearly visitors arrive between June and August.  Volunteers can help as little as two hours a week.  The museum is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m..  Beginning June 18 until Labor Day the museum will be open on Sundays from noon to 4:00 p.m.  If interested, please call the Seneca Museum at 315-568-1510 or e-mail director@senecamuseum.com .

Westcott Artifacts Wanted

The Seneca Museum of Waterways and Industry in Seneca Falls will open a Westcott Exhibit in June.  The museum is looking for artifacts manufactured by Westcott-Jewell or Westcott Ruler companies, especially a wooden trellis, dominoes, blocks, a pencil case, etc.  Artifacts can be donated on a loan basis.  For more information contact the museum at 315-568-1510 or director@senecamuseum.com .

B.E. Wright Distribution Corp. of route 414 in Seneca Falls has received the Coors President's Award at the Coors Brewing Companies' national sales convention in Houston, Texas. The Seneca Falls company was recognized for the year versus the previous year a three-year compounded growth rate and maintaining quality standards, among other factors.

2006 Credit Policy For Filling Swimming Pools

For several years, customers of the Seneca Falls Water and Sewer Department have requested relief on their quarterly bills when they fill private swimming pools. The customers made the point that the water used for filling these pools was not discharged to the sanitary sewer so; they should not be liable for this portion of their water and sewer bill. more

Breakfast with the Easter Bunny was a hopping good time at the Masonic Lodges of Waterloo and Seneca Falls this past Sunday  Children young and not so young had breakfast and received a free picture taken with the Easter Bunny.  After Breakfast the children were lead in a traditional outdoor Easter Egg Hunt by Mr. E. Scoping Period Extended For Wesleyan Chapel

Women's Rights National Historical Park is continuing to seek feedback from the public about current and potential problems for long term preservation of the Wesleyan Chapel, site of the nation¹s first women¹s rights convention in 1848. The comment period has been extended to April 12, 2006, and comments can be submitted electronically, in writing, or delivered by hand. More information can be obtained at http://parkplanning.nps.gov. These comments will guide the National Park Service in developing and evaluating a range of alternatives to address identified issues. The public will have another opportunity to comment on the alternatives in upcoming months.

Women's Rights National Historical Park invites the public to Children's Day at the Stanton House on April 15 from 1:00 - 4:00 pm for an afternoon of stories and nineteenth-century games. What was it like to be raised by a mother devoted to family and women's rights? Bring the whole family to learn what was going on in the Stanton household in 1856, when family trials and tribulations were overshadowed by earth-shattering national events leading up to the Civil War: Bleeding Kansas, the first Republican National Convention, and more. Mystery of the Seneca Falls Convention, Who Came & Why?

Dr. Judith Wellman, Director of Historical New York Research Associates, will speak on the Mystery of the Seneca Falls Convention at the Heritage Area Visitor Center, 115 Fall Street Lower Level on Sunday March 12th, 2006 at 2 p.m. Dr. Wellman is the lead consultant for the Underground Railroad, Abolitionism, and African Life study in Seneca County. Her latest book "The Road to Seneca Falls" is one of the best interpretations of the 1848 Women's Rights Convention. She will be signing her books before and after the lecture. SFCSD Elementary School Artists Work On Display

Dorothy Dickieson Tapped As Woman Of The Year

The Seneca Falls Women’s Coalition is happy to announce that Dorothy Dickieson has been named Seneca County Woman of the Year. Dorothy was born in Jamaica, New York but moved to a Kingston, New York at 8, graduated from Kingston High School, went on to the State College for Teachers in Albany (now the University at Albany), did graduate work through Syracuse University and received her MS degree from Alfred University. Dorothy met and married Sam Dickieson while at Albany. They have been married 58 years. more

The Seneca Falls Library is once again sponsoring a community reading of the same book. This year’s featured selection is “Frankenstein” by Mary Shelley. Author and English teacher Cindy Duprey will kick off the event at 7 p.m. Feb. 7 at the library, 47 Cayuga St. She will speak on Shelley and provide reading guidelines and themes from the book that are pertinent in today’s world of cloning and transplants. Duprey returns for a community discussion at 7 p.m. March 7. The library has 12 copies of this immortal tale about hubris, love and hate, justice, racism and the responsibilities of scientists. Historic Nativity Auction To Benefit Mynderse Chamber Singers

The nativity was purchased in 1930 in Boston, Mass by the president of MIT.  The tallest piece is approximately 12" tall and are beautiful soft colors.  The pieces were appraised by Hobb for a value of $150.

Stanton House Closes For The Winter, NPS Fee Structure Changed

The Elizabeth Cady Stanton House closes for the winter season beginning Monday, December 19, 2005.  The house will reopen for daily tours in March, 2006.  The Visitor Center at 136 Fall Street, Seneca Falls will remain open throughout the winter, where visitors may view a 30-minute introductory film and tour exhibits.  The Wesleyan Chapel tour will be offered twice daily. more

This past July the Mynderse Academy Chamber Singers began fundraising for a trip of a lifetime to perform in London, England in the summer of 2006. Can you believe it's almost time for our Christmas Tree Recycling Program! From Monday, December 26, 2006 to Sunday, January 8, 2006, Seneca Meadows will be collecting Christmas trees again at the Waterloo Wal-Mart, and the Seneca Falls IGA. Seneca County residents and businesses are invited to drop off their trees in the roll-off bins any time the stores are open. Trees must be cleaned of all tinsel, garland, lights, ornaments, wire hooks, nails, screws and carrying bags.

Annual Habitat for Humanity Murder Mystery Dinner a Success

The annual Murder Mystery dinner to benefit Habitat for Humanity of Seneca County took place Oct. 15 at the Seneca Falls Holiday Inn. Not only was the murderer found out, but thousands of dollars were raised to benefit Habitat's home building program in Seneca County.

Pumpkin Carving Contest

Seneca Museum of Waterways and Industry will hold its first Pumpkin Carving Contest.  Entries must be brought to the museum located at 89 Fall Street in Seneca Falls between October 21-29 with judging being at noon on October 29.  All entries will be displayed in the front window. Winners will be notified with a $20 prize for the best carved pumpkin and prizes for second and third place.  All entrants will receive a Goulds Pumps Poster from the Saturday Evening Post.

Mike Stackus Jr. Wins 2005 SFCC Club Championship

Mike Stackus Jr. sucessfully defended his club championship on Labor Day at the Seneca Falls Country Club defeating Ed Boudreau Jr. 1-up on the final hole of the 36 hole final. It was Stackus' second championship in the past two years. He currently attends St. John Fisher College in Rochester where he plays on the golf team.

Waterloo-SF School Merger Straw Vote

The Waterloo and Seneca Falls School Boards have given the go-ahead for a non-binding straw vote on a merger between the two districts. The vote is slated for August 1, 2005. The boards approved the vote after hearing the results of a merger feasibility study conducted by a consultant. A number of public forums on the merger have been scheduled for this summer in both communities. If voters in both districts approve the merger on August first, a binding vote would be held in the fall. If approved then, the merger would take place at the end of next school year. In a press conference at the Waterloo Holiday Inn today, IESI-Seneca Meadows Landfill and Senator Michael F. Nozzolio introduced plans for a landfill gas powered Renewable Resource Park, and its first tenant, H 2 Gro, a hydroponic tomato greenhouse company out of Lewiston, New York. H 2 Gro will construct and operate up to 20 acres of greenhouses, providing about 100 new jobs for the community.
