Schooner Lois McClure visits Seneca Falls
The Lois McClure is a replica of a type of schooner designed to travel the canals of upstate New York. The 1823 appearance of experimental sailing-canal boats on Lake Champlain coincided with the linking of the lake to the Hudson River via the Northern Canal. The design of the Lois McClure was inspired by two shipwrecks located in Burlington, Vermont, which is where she can be found when not on tour. Construction, which began in 2002, took until 2004 to complete. To learn more, visit the web site, www.lcmm.org/our_fleet/lois_mcclure.htm. Special events are planned around her visit. Call (315) 568-2703 for more information. |
