| Record Numbers Attend Seneca Meadows Open House
Friday, September 15, 2006
Over 2,000 people came out to the annual IESI-Seneca Meadows Landfill Open House on Sunday, beating last year’s record of 1,500 attendees. The weather was perfect for the day’s activities, which included: guided tours of the facility, a complimentary barbeque, street and stage entertainment, a falcon flying demonstration, games for the kids, and music by WNYR.
Landfill District Manager, Don Gentilcore said this about the event: “I think the most exciting thing for us about our Open House is the number of visitors who make sure they take our site tour. With four 48-passenger tour buses going non-stop, all day, you know that people are here to learn: To learn how we manage waste, how we protect our groundwater and natural resources, and how we operate our many auxiliary facilities, like the tire recycling center and the landfill gas powered electric plants.
And there’s always something new to learn about our site. This year, Open House goers heard about the landfill gas powered industrial park we are building on the east side of Route 414, and the Community Education Center that is in the works.
We really appreciate everyone who took the time to come out, and we want to thank all of our talented and hard working employees for making the 2006 Open House a success.”
This year’s entertainment was The Juggling Trio, a group from Cicero, who amazed audiences with their acts of fire eating, juggling with fire and magic. The barbeque was prepared by Manhill Food Service.
